Unicaja, through the Edufinet Project and together with the IMFE (Municipal Institute for Training and Employment) of Malaga City Council, has given a workshop to provide business owners and entrepreneurs with the tools and skills to boost their business initiatives.

The aim of this recently held workshop, which has been attended by nearly one hundred people, responds to the goal of teaching business owners and entrepreneurs the basic aspects and products of the financial world, and especially how to prepare a financial and economic plan.

Among the topics discussed in the third edition of this workshop, the following can be mentioned: financial education and the Edufinet Project, economic and financial indicators, and the products offered by banks to business owners and entrepreneurs to carry out their activities (deposits and payment methods, fixed and variable income, mutual funds, etc.).

The Edufinet Project, promoted by Unicaja Banco and Fundación Unicaja, is one of the first financial education programmes in Spain. It collaborates with over twenty universities and business institutions and organizations, and it has received several awards.

Edufinet Project

The Edufinet Project, has been working, through an Internet portal aimed at the general public, since the end of 2007, although its development began in 2005. In addition to more than ten business institutions and organizations, 14 universities collaborate with the programme. All this has made Unicaja to be one of the financial institutions pioneering in Spain in the launch of an initiative of this kind; a work which has been rewarded with several awards.

From among all the activities organized by the Edufinet Project, the Conferences ‘Financial Education for Young People’ are to be highlighted. These conferences are an initiative for high school students, and are related to a school competition called Financial Olympics.

In addition to the said activities, Edufinet promotes as well workshops and lectures at universities, summer courses or the participation in international projects. Since it was launched, it has brought the world of finance closer to more than 127,600 people. It also publishes several manuals and guides, such as the ‘Financial Guide’ or the ‘Financial Guide for business owners and entrepreneurs’.

Regarding the website www.edufinet.com, which offers systemic and practical information in a question-answer format and where no previous knowledge on finance is required, it has registered more than seven million visits, with consultations and access from almost 180 countries.

The Edufinet Project has other two specific portals: the first one, addressed to business owners and entrepreneurs (Edufiemp), and the second one, on financial education for young people (Edufinext).

The Instituto Municipal para la Formación y el Empleo (IMFE, Municipal Institute for Training and Employment) of Malaga City Council, intends to be an instrument to promote the economic and social development in the city of Malaga by supporting the creation and consolidation of businesses and promoting employment and self-employment

The IMFE has a Business Unit which acts as a reference center to boost, support and provide guidance to entrepreneurs who decide to start a business project, and it is responsible for channeling the different aids to entrepreneurship (subsidies, micro-credits and training, for instance).
