Unicaja lent the historic building located in the Barrio Húmedo, in the heart of the city, as the venue for the gastronomic capital events.

León Capital Española de la Gastronomía 2018 (León Gastronomic Capital of Spain 2018) has awarded Unicaja one of its prizes to recognize the role of different people and institutions who have participated in the development, during the last year, of the activities related to the gastronomic capital event.

The award to Unicaja Banco, given today in the city of León, thanks the institution for lending the Casa de las Carnicerías as the venue for this gastronomic event. The Casa de las Carnicerías is a historic building located in the so-called Barrio Húmedo, the city’s culinary heart. The prize rewards the Most Participative Initiative, as more than 42,000 people have attended the activities organized at the Casa de las Carnicerías, the hub of the event, with presentations, tasting of products, showcooking and many other activities.

The award was delivered by the President of León Capital Española de la Gastronomía 2018, Mariano Palacín, to Unicaja Banco’s Regional Manager, Margarita Serna, who thanked for the prize and reiterated the bank’s commitment to projects that generate wealth and boost the development of the province and of the autonomous community.

Unicaja Banco lent in December 2017 the Casa de las Carnicerías as venue for León Capital Española de la Gastronomía 2018, an event which has been an excellent showcase of the culinary wealth of this city and its province.

The building, located in Plaza de San Martín, was built in 1579, following a project by the architect Juan de Ribero. With around 1,000 sqm distributed in two floors, it was historically used in the Middle Ages to sell meats to the city’s markets. Restored by the institution, it has served for many years as a bank branch and as an exhibition hall. During 2018, it has hosted many of the activities organized within the framework of the Gastronomic Capital.

The Awards of the Gastronomic Capital of Spain have also recognized the contributions of other 18 personalities and institutions to the success of the events organized in León: the city’s Mayor, Antonio Silván; the Regional Minister of Culture, María Josefa García Cirac; the President of the Provincial Council, Juan Martínez Majo; the ONCE; the school Camino del Norte; the Designation of Origin León; the brand Productos de León; Embutidos Ezequiel; Guiness Record; Protected Geographical Indication Cecina de León; Master Chef; José Luis del Barrio; Santiago Pérez García; Prada a Tope; the Tourism Councilor of the Provincial Council, Genaro Martínez, and the restaurateurs Marcos Vidal, from Bodega Regio; YolandaLeón and Juanjo Pérez, from Restaurante Cocinandos; and Yolanda Rojo and Juanjo Losada, from Restaurante Pablo.
