These workhsops, which reach their tenth edition, have also been organized during this school year 2018-2019 in Andalusia, Castilla y Leon, Castilla-La Mancha, Extremadura and Melilla. Invitations have been extended to over 45,000 students from 1,200 high schools.

The financial education project Edufinet is a pioneering programme in Spain. It currently collaborates with 14 universities and with more than ten business institutions and organizations.

The Edufinet Project, promoted by Unicaja Banco and Fundación Unicaja, has organized in Madrid, for the first time, its Conferences on Financial Education for Young People, with the aim of teaching the keys of the financial world to Secondary Education and Baccalaureate students. This training activity has been held at the IES Cardenal Cisneros, in the city of Madrid.

These conferences, which reach their tenth edition, have also been organized during this school year 2018-2019 in Andalusia, Castilla y Leon, Castilla-La Mancha, Extremadura and Melilla. Invitations have been extended to over 45,000 students from 1,200 high schools.

The 10th Conferences on Financial Education for Young People intend to promote education on finances, focusing on daily elements, with the purpose of providing Secondary and Baccalaureate students with the appropriate skills for their day-to-day use.

In sum, the aim is to continue teaching the basic aspects of economics and finances, paying special attention to the financial products and services that students use or will use throughout their life.

The workshops given in high schools are very practical, adapted to the needs of young people. In general, they analyse basic economic indicators, the financial system and the most usual products and services (notions on fixed income and securities, investment funds, public pension system or loans, for instance).

The students attending the 10th Conferences on Financial Education for Young People can show what they have learnt at the school competition Financial Olympics, which is also celebrating its tenth edition.

Edufinet Project, a pioneering initiative

The Edufinet Project launched in 2007 its Internet portal, promoted by Unicaja and with the collaboration of the International University of Andalusia (Universidad Internacional de Andalucía, UNIA) and the University of Malaga (UMA), although its development began in 2005.

In addition to more than ten business institutions and organizations, 14 universities collaborate with this project. All of that has made Unicaja, one of the first financial institutions in Spain to launch an initiative of this kind, to be one of the most active agents in this field.

During its trajectory, it has received several awards and more than 127,600 people have participated in the different conferences, workshops, lectures and seminars developed, of which 89,000 have attended the Conferences on Financial Education for Young People.

It also fosters the development of workshops and lectures at universities, summer courses or participation in international projects. Furthermore, it promotes several publications, such as the ‘Financial Guide’ and the ‘Financial Guide for Business Owners and Entrerpreneurs’.

The website www.edufinet.com, which includes systematic and practical information in a question-answer format and where no previous knowledge is required, has registered so far more than 7.6 million visits, with consultations and access from 180 countries.

Edufinet offers two additional specific Internet portals: one aimed at financial education for young people (Edufinext) and one for business owners and entrepreneurs (Edufiemp).
