Unicaja Banco shows again its commitment to cultural and social initiatives developed by institutions of the province.

Unicaja Banco has entered into an agreement with Ciudad Rodrigo City Council to collaborate in the programme of cultural activities organized by the latter to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the declaration of the city as Historic-Artistic Site. The agreement has been executed by the bank’s Regional Manager, Manuel Rubio, and by the Mayor of Ciudad Rodrigo, Marcos Iglesias.

The declaration of Ciudad Rodrigo as Historic-Artistic Site was published in the Official Gazette (Boletín Oficial del Estado) in March 1944, recognizing the special relevance and interest of the architectural heritage of the city, including buildings such as the Cathedral of Santa María, the City Council and the Plaza Mayor, the walled city and the castle of Henry II of Trastámara, currently a Parador Nacional de Turismo.

To commemorate this anniversary, Ciudad Rodrigo City Hall has launched a broad programme of cultural activities, which have been taking place since the beginning of the year and will end in November. This programme includes, among others, an encounter of creators, several photo and painting exhibitions with paintings belonging to the City Hall, workshops for children, a question and answer competition with the name of José Pinto –a popular contestant of TV shows, who died earlier this year- and recreations of the life in the city in the 1940s.

During the months until the end of this commemoration, there are more exhibitions scheduled, a week of activities for young people, a folklore summer school, the traditional theater festival of August, a national horse competition (acoso y derribo), a festival of Spanish-Portuguese traditional culture, initiatives to boost retail shopping and other events for the general public.

Unicaja Banco has expressed its satisfaction in collaborating with the City Hall in this successful programme and shows its commitment to the cultural and social initiatives promoted in the province by different groups and institutions.

The year 2019 is also special in Ciudad Rodrigo as it celebrates other anniversaries: 250 years of Seminario de San Cayetano, 130 years of the Declaration of the Cathedral as Cultural Heritage, 40 years of the Fiesta de la Charrada and 75 years of the creation of the Murga (currently, Rondalla Tres Cruces).
