Unicaja Banco and Federación Asturiana de Empresarios (FADE, Asturias Federation of Business Owners) collaborate to improve the financial literacy of SMEs, freelancers and entrepreneurs. To this end, a workshop was held this Wednesday in Oviedo with the aim of making these professionals aware of the importance of having knowledge and skills that will enable them to carry out proper planning and to maintain a healthy economy at any time, both financially and in terms of proper environmental, social and governance (ESG) management.

This workshop, whose sponsorship and development by Unicaja Banco joins other training activities within the framework of the collaboration agreement signed between both institutions, took place at the headquarters of the Federation in Oviedo, on Calle Pintor Luis Fernández.

The workshop, called ‘Improve your financial wellbeing’, was given by Francisco Javier Fernández González, Account Director of Corporate Banking North at Unicaja Banco and member of the Edufinet financial education project team.

The purpose of this initiative was to provide participants with the basic knowledge that will enable them to make decisions freely, independently and responsibly, and thus contribute to the proper development of their businesses.

A good part of the entrepreneurs who start a business do so without adequate financial knowledge, unaware of the importance of good planning, the existing sources of financing or the need to have sufficient liquidity at all times, among other aspects.

Therefore, it is necessary for all those who manage a business to know some basic financial concepts, products and services, as well as other alternatives that allow them to take advantage of their benefits and boost the growth of their business.

This event will be the first of cycle of three events that will continue with the long-standing collaboration between the bank and the Asturias Federation of Business Owners.

Sustainable financing

To this end, this workshop will provide tools to address the resource constraints inherent to any organization, with special emphasis on measures that support and promote sustainable financing.

During the development of this workshop, based mainly on the resolution of practical cases, issues such as the importance of a good financial education; the analysis of the economic and financial structure of the company; bank financing according to each business need; the relationship between banks and companies, and other non-bank financing products will be addressed.

Commitment to society and economic development

For Unicaja Banco, financial inclusion is essential, especially in an environment in continuous transformation and marked by digitalization. Therefore, in the exercise of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and its commitment to society, the bank carries out various initiatives to contribute to improving the literacy of citizens on economic and financial matters.

It does so directly or through the Edufinet Project, which it develops together with Fundación Unicaja and which has been promoting financial education activities for nearly 20 years. Specifically, this program has a specific portal aimed at business owners and entrepreneurs (eduFIemp).

Likewise, the collaboration in workshops such as the one developed with FADE also responds to Unicaja Banco’s interest in favoring the activity of the business fabric and facilitating economic growth in the regions where it operates in general, and, in this specific case, in Asturias, one of its regions of origin.

FADE represents and defends the general interests of companies and freelancers in Asturias. It is currently made up of 81 business associations, which include more than 50,000 companies.
