Unicaja Banco exhibits a selection of almost fifty works by various contemporary artists, owned by the financial institution, in the exhibition 'Arte gráfica de autor (I)', which can be seen in Gijón, from 5 to 20 August, at the 66th International Trade Fair of Asturias (FIDMA).

Thus, different works by Asturian artists such as Melquíades Álvarez, Ricardo G. Mojardín, Pelayo Ortega, Bernardo Sanjurjo, Antonio Suárez, Francisco Velasco or Paulino Vicente, which are part of the financial institution’s artistic heritage, will be on display.

These works, created between the second half of the 20th century and the beginning of the 21st century, will be on display at the Unicaja Banco Pavilion at the Luis Adaro exhibition center in Gijon, and can be visited from 11.00 to 14.30 and from 16.30 to 21.00.

The exhibition, which was presented today, is completed with other graphic works by internationally renowned artists such as Pablo Ruiz Picasso, Miguel Barceló, Salvador Dalí, Oswaldo Guayasamín, Mimmo Paladino and Antonio Saura.

This exhibition and the presence, once again, at FIDMA are part of Unicaja Banco’s support to culture, in particular, and to Asturias, in general, as part of its commitment to this region, one of its main areas of origin and where it is a financial institution of reference.

About the exhibition

The exhibition 'Arte gráfica de autor (I)' is made up of fifty graphic works by various artists from the second half of the 20th century and the 21st century, belonging to Asturian authors such as Bernardo Sanjurjo, Antonio Suarez or Francisco Velasco, and renowned international artists such as Pablo Ruiz Picasso, Miguel Barcelo, Salvador Dali, Oswaldo Guayasamin or Antonio Saura.

Many of them have been made in lithography, the art of drawing or engraving in limestone prepared for the purpose to reproduce, by means of subsequent printing, what has been drawn or engraved, thus facilitating the production in series signed and numbered. Its creator was the German playwright and musician Johann Aloys Senefeider in 1796.

The exhibition ‘Arte gráfica de autor (I)’ of Unicaja Banco features a wide range of works of outstanding authors who have used this technique.

Asturias has also had important lithographic workshops, most of them located in Gijón (Litografía Viña, Metalgráfica Moré, Litografía de Luciano Muñiz and Litografía Luba). In Oviedo, the lithographic workshop of the former Provincial Council was very significant, and in Luarca, that of Gráficas Pérez del Río.

In all of them, their essentially industrial and commercial clientele was soon joined by renowned artists, who frequently and skillfully used the numerous possibilities of lithographic art.
