From today, the San Eloy Building houses the new Edufinet Financial Education Center in Salamanca, an initiative promoted by Unicaja's Edufinet Project, with the collaboration of Fundación Caja Duero. This project also has the support of Funcas (Fundación de Cajas de Ahorro), through its Funcas Educa program, to encourage financial education.

The event held this morning in the facilities of Plaza de San Boal, in the center of Salamanca, was attended by the head the Edufinet Project, José M. Domínguez; the director general of People and Resources of Unicaja Banco, José María de la Vega; and Juan Antonio Cano, head of Financial Education of Fundación Bancaria Unicaja. Also present were various authorities from Salamanca, including the mayor of the city, Carlos García Carbayo.

The purpose of the new center is to develop training and dissemination activities on economic and financial issues, with the aim of improving citizens' knowledge and skills in these areas, contributing to informed and responsible individual decision making.

The new premises, of more than 200 square meters, located in the historic San Eloy building, host an exhibition on economic and financial basic concepts and fun facts, a timeline reflecting the historical evolution of money over the centuries, an interactive financial games area with 10 tablets and a training room.

In April 2019, Fundación Bancaria Unicaja, Unicaja Banco and the Caja Duero Foundation signed an agreement to collaborate in the development of the activities promoted within the Edufinet Project in Castilla y León. During these years, conferences, seminars, workshops and courses have been programmed, always in the field of economic and financial education.

Edufinet Project

Edufinet is a project promoted by Unicaja Banco and Fundación Unicaja, together with other public and private institutions. In Castilla y León, collaboration agreements have been signed with the University of Salamanca, the Pontifical University of Salamanca, the University of Valladolid, the University of León and the University of Burgos.

The Edufinet Project has nearly two decades of experience and is one of the pioneering financial education programs in the country. Its objective is to ensure the financial inclusion of all groups in society. Throughout this time, it has received several awards, including several recognitions from the CECA Social Work and Financial Education Awards.

This program has been operating through an Internet portal aimed at the general public since the end of 2007, although it began to be developed in 2005. It has the collaboration of more than a dozen institutions and business organizations, as well as 17 universities.

Since it was launched, almost 260,000 people have participated in the various seminars, workshops, courses and conferences it has organized. Its web pages have so far registered more than 20 million accumulated visits, with access from almost 180 countries.

All of this has made Unicaja, one of the pioneering entities in Spain to launch an initiative of this type, one of the most active agents in the fields of financial education and inclusion, in the exercise of its CSR and its commitment to society.
