With 350 members, the club has also a Wheelchair Basketball School for children and teenagers.
With the sponsorship of this institution, Unicaja Banco intends to help to spread sports among people with physical disabilities.
Unicaja Banco has renewed its collaboration with Club de Baloncesto Silla de Ruedas Valladolid (BSR Valladolid), founded in 1994 and which has been playing for 23 seasons in the Spanish professional league of wheelchair basketball (División de Honor). The club was the league champion in the season 2010-2011 and won the Willi Brinkmann Europe Cup in 2010.
The sponsorship agreement has been signed by Unicaja Banco Regional Manager, Manuel Rubio, and by the President of Club de Baloncesto Silla de Ruedas Valladolid, José Antonio de Castro Blanco.
Unicaja Banco’s support to BSR Valladolid falls within the bank’s interest in promoting and supporting, in the areas where it operates and particularly in Valladolid, those activities that promote sports as a way to facilitate full inclusion of people with disabilities.
The club (http://www.bsrvalladolid.com/), which has 350 members, intends to provide the physically disabled of Valladolid and Castilla y León with the resources needed to practice sport, in particular, through wheelchair basketball.
Wheelchair Basketball School
To promote the practice of this sport, in addition to the main team playing in the top league, BSR Valladolid has, since 2015, a Wheelchair Basketball School for children and teenagers aged from 9 to 18.
This school, which currently has 19 participants, offers the possibility of practicing sports to those children who find it difficult to do so in their daily life, free time or as an after-school activity. For that purpose, the school has it has an instructor and a mechanic and is under the direct supervision of the club’s technical direction.
