Unicaja Banco, through Unicorp Vida (held at 50% with Santalucía), is a pioneer in the inclusion, for free and as part of the improvement of its products, of pharmacogenetics among the services available in its life insurances. This way, it offers a genetic analysis to customers, so that they can get the most efficient and tailored treatment in the event of serious illness.

This novel feature is provided by SOS Salud y Bienestar, a service of Santalucía Group specialized in healthcare, and under the proposed terms, Unicaja Banco and Unicorp Vida are pioneer in offering it to their customers.

In particular, it will be included in the modalities of life insurances –seguros de vida libre- (Univida Anual Renovable, Univida 45 Anual Renovable, Univida Anual Renovable No Residentes y Seguro de Vida Libre Pymes), both for new subscriptions and for policies currently in force, thus providing added value to customers.

The main goal of the pharmacogenetics service is to focus on personalization to administer the drug that is most efficient for each patient, with the lowest risk of adverse effects.

This service allows, by a DNA study, to determine that the treatment that a patient receives after the diagnosis of a serious illness is the most efficient and appropriate for him/her.

Report by a specialized laboratory

After the diagnosis of one of the diseases included in this service (breast or colorectal cancer, deep vein thrombosis and pulmonary thromboembolism, heart attack or cerebral infarction, and epilepsy), a genetic analysis will be performed, which will be studied at a specialized laboratory, where an expert doctor will prepare a report on the results.

The customer may submit a copy of this report to his/her doctor for him/her to consider it when prescribing a treatment, so as to get the most efficient effect from the beginning. Additionally, the customer will be accompanied throughout the process, with responses to his/her questions and to those of the doctors.

Risk life insurance has seen a change in perception over the last years, as there is a larger prevention culture in society. Customers now seek a personalization through products with wider coverage and supplementary services, to go with them during all their life cycle.

Therefore, the essential function of life insurance, which is to ensure a capital in case of fatality or disability, is supplemented by additional coverage and services which provide added value to customers. This is the reason why Unicaja Banco and Unicorp Patrimonio incorporate pharmacogenetics.
