Unicaja Banco will sponsor again the traditional International Descent of the Sella River, which reaches its 84th edition this year and which will be held on 6 August. This sponsorship gives continuity to the traditional collaboration between the emblematic sporting event and the financial institution (under the brand Liberbank since 2014 and, before, Cajastur).
Likewise, with this sponsorship Unicaja Banco supports the return of the Descent of the Sella River and Canoe Festival after two years of suspension as a consequence of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The collaboration and sponsorship agreement has been signed in Oviedo by Unicaja Banco’s Head of Institutional Relations and Image, Fernando Ríos, and the Head of the Organizing Committee of the International Descent of the Sella River (Codis), Juan Manuel Feliz.
The collaboration agreement includes, in addition to the economic support, the contribution by Unicaja Banco of materials for the development of the race, such as fences, backpacks or a tent for two days.
Canoe Festival
The International Descent of the Sella River, known as the ‘Fiesta de las Piraguas’ (Canoe Festival), an iconic competition that is one of the hallmarks of Asturias and is an international showcase of the region, for its status as a Festival of International Tourist Interest, is an essential milestone every first Saturday of August since 1930, a tradition only interrupted between 1936 and 1943, and in 2020 and 2021 due to the coronavirus pandemic, and since 1951 welcomes international athletes.
This event, which is held along the waters of the Sella river, between the towns of Arriondas (Parres) and Ribadesella, reaches every year a participation that exceeds a thousand canoeists from more than 10 countries.
