The chairman and CEO of Unicaja, José Sevilla and Isidro Rubiales, respectively, paid an institutional visit to Oviedo on Thursday, coinciding with the holding of a Board of Directors meeting in the Asturian capital today, Friday.
With this event, Unicaja reinforces its commitment and closeness to Asturias, one of its regions of origin, and particularly to Oviedo, where the bank has close ties.
During the day, the entity's top executives participated in meetings with local and regional representatives in which they shared their thoughts on the role of the bank in the development of the Principality.
In this context, the chairman of Unicaja, José Sevilla, pointed out that “being in Asturias not only connects us with one of our regions of origin, but also reaffirms our commitment to our roots, constant accompaniment and contribution to collective development, in line with the values that define us as institution”. He added that “holding our board meeting in Asturias transcends the symbolic and is a tangible sign of Unicaja's intention to continue generating value and strengthening its relationship with this community”.
For his part, the CEO, Isidro Rubiales, stressed the importance of this visit: “Holding a Board of Directors meeting in this region reflects our firm commitment to a future linked to the progress of the regions that gave rise to Unicaja”. He also stated that “this is an opportunity to listen closely to the needs, concerns and aspirations of this region under our model of proximity banking, which is distinguished by accompanying its customers and being able to adapt to their needs and expectations”.
Unicaja's goal is to continue contributing to the development of Asturias in all areas, coordinating with public and private agents those strategies that allow the growth of the region and actively collaborating in initiatives that generate value in society through different areas. In this way, it is present with its support in important events such as the Princess of Asturias Awards, the Descent of the Sella or the International Trade Fair of Asturias.
At the business level, as part of its commitment to the economic and social development of the region, it collaborates with the Federation of Businessowners (FADE) and with the Chambers of Commerce, as well as with the Mutual Guarantee Society of Asturias (Asturgar SGR), with the aim of contributing to the generation of opportunities for sustainable growth and the development of companies and entrepreneurs.
Within the academic field, the bank maintains a close collaboration with the University of Oviedo and participates in various projects, such as the Awards for the Best Academic Records. It also contributes to promoting culture in Asturias, collaborating with the Oviedo Opera in its annual program at the Campoamor Theater, with the Day of America in Asturias or with its participation in important exhibitions, lending works from its collection.
In the sports area, in addition to the Descent of the Sella, the entity sponsors Real Oviedo and Sporting de Gijón, and is also committed to the promotion of sports and healthy habits, in such emblematic events as the San Silvestre de Oviedo, the Swimming Crossings or the Cross Popular Villa de Gijón. It also supports initiatives for the development of social and sports schools.
On the other hand, it is worth mentioning the presence of Cajastur in the bank's shareholding structure, with an important work in the social field.
With these institutional visits and the holding of the Board of Directors meeting in Asturias, Unicaja reaffirms its commitment to its regions of origin and its role as a promoter of economic, social and sustainable development in the communities that are part of its history and growth.
