The president of the Regional Government of Extremadura, María Guardiola, together with representatives of eleven banks, including Unicaja, presented the 'Habita Extremadura' program, which will promote the construction of at least 3,036 subsidized housing units until 2027.

Among other objectives, this action seeks to respond to the demand for housing in the region, guaranteeing access to a home at affordable prices.

The foreseen investment will exceed 400 million euros and will include public land from the Junta, Urvipexsa and the town councils that join the project. The financing will be provided by the banks that have signed the declaration this Monday. On behalf of Unicaja, the Head of Corporate Banking for Castilla-La Mancha and Extremadura, Ignacio González Ascarza, was present.

The president thanked these entities for their commitment and emphasized: “This is another example of public-private collaboration that seeks the welfare of the people of Extremadura and also the development of the real estate and construction sectors”.

First developments of public housing

Some of the program's first developments are already at an advanced stage: Cáceres, in the Junquillo neighborhood, where the building of 200 subsidized housing units is being promoted, with 320 applications already registered. Construction is expected to begin in the first half of this year, with a duration of 16 to 24 months. Prices will be affordable: 60 sqm homes with two bedrooms, garage and storage room for 110,000 euros (VAT included). And a second type of housing, 80 sqm with three bedrooms, garage and storage room for 139,000 euros (VAT included). Another example of promotion is in Zafra, Urbanización Torre de San Miguel, 16 single-family homes with an investment of 2.1 million euros. The works are in the bidding phase, and will start in three months.

In short, all homes in the 'Habita Extremadura' program will have a modern and efficient design; maximum energy savings to reduce the cost of bills and an affordable price, with VAT reduced to 4 percent instead of 10 percent. Buyers will be able to access aids for the downpayment from the Regional Government: an extra 10,000 euros for those under 35 years of age and 9,000 euros for the rest of the buyers. These will be available to families who do not own another home and whose income does not exceed 4.5 times the IPREM.
